Publication Ethics

Ethics Statement & Publication Malpractice Statement

ESBER Publication Ethics are based on Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

Ethics of Authors

Standards and Originality writing

Authors must present accurate work related to original research conducted honestly, presenting an objective discussion of its significance. Manuscripts of the work must contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Manuscripts submitted must follow the ESBER journal submission guidelines.

Plagiarism:

Authors must ensure that they have written completely original work. Relevant previous works and publications, both by other researchers and the authors themselves, must be properly acknowledged and referenced. Diction, original words, or sentences are taken directly from publications by other researchers must appear in quotation marks with appropriate citations. Manuscripts submitted must follow the ESBER journal plagiarism standards.

Multiple Publications:

Authors may not, in general, submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable.

Acknowledgment of Sources:

Authors must acknowledge all sources of data used in the study and cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the work reported. Proper acknowledgment of the work of others should always be given.

Fundamental Errors in Published Works:

If the author finds significant errors or inaccuracies in the submitted manuscript, the author must immediately notify the journal editor or publisher and work closely with the editor to retract or correct the manuscript.

Ethics of Reviewers

Confidentiality:

Information about manuscripts submitted by authors must be kept confidential and treated as privileged information. They may not be shown or discussed with others except as permitted by the editor.

Acknowledgment of Sources

The reviewer must ensure that the authors have acknowledged all sources of data used in the study. Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument has been previously reported must be accompanied by a relevant citation. Reviewers should immediately notify the journal if they discover irregularities, have concerns about ethical aspects of the work, become aware of substantial similarities between manuscripts and concurrent submissions to other journals, or suspect that a violation may have occurred, either during research or writing and submission of manuscripts.

Standard of Objectivity

Review of submitted manuscripts must be conducted objectively and reviewers must express their views clearly with supporting arguments. Reviewers should follow the journal's instructions about the specific feedback required from them unless there is a good reason not to do so. The reviewer should be constructive in their review and provide feedback that will help the authors to improve their manuscripts. The review should describe any suggested additional investigations that are important to support the claims made in the manuscript under consideration.

Avoiding Conflicts of Interest

Information or privileged ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal gain. Reviews must not consider manuscripts in which they have a conflict of interest resulting from a competitive, collaborative, or other relationship or connection with the author, company, or any institution associated with the manuscript.

Accuracy

Reviews must respond within a reasonable time frame. Reviewers only agree to review the manuscript, if they are reasonably certain that they can return the review within the proposed or mutually agreed time frame, informing the journal immediately if they require an extension. In the event that a reviewer finds it impossible to complete a manuscript review within the allotted time, the reviewer must immediately communicate to the editor so that the manuscript can be sent to another reviewer.
